About Metro One Ambulance, Inc

Our company was founded in Columbia, South Carolina, and has since expanded. In 2024 we began a merger with Smart Transportation, and also acquired a satellite office near Charleston as a result. This service area expansion allows us access to a much wider range of resources, including a larger pool of EMT and Paramedic hires to support our clients. We serve all of South Carolina for all of their NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) and EMS needs.

Whether you need Private Pay Transportation, Medicaid Transportation, or are a Facility/Provider, we can help get you where you need to go.

Levels of Care Available:

When it comes to NEMT services, varying staffing levels are available. Since we started as a non-emergency ambulance company, Metro One Ambulance, LLC specializes in BLS transportation. However, we also feature ALS capabilities, wheelchair compliant vehicles, and ambulatory sedans, should the need arise from one of our clients. For more about the difference between BLS and ALS, please read on.

An EMT-Basic (Emergency Medical Technician – Basic) provides pre-hospital emergency and non-emergent medical care for patients needing medical intervention. Their competencies include, but are not limited to:

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS): They perform life-saving techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to assist patients in cardiac arrest.
  2. Airway Management: EMT-B can manage airways using techniques such as manual airway positioning, bag-mask ventilation, IGEL intubation and basic airway adjuncts such as oropharyngeal airways or nasopharyngeal airways.
  3. Medical Interventions: EMT-B can administer certain medications, such as oxygen, glucose, narcan. EMT-B can provide and use most medical equipment, including splints to stabilize fractures and bandages to control bleeding.
  4. Trauma Care: EMT-B are trained to identify and manage trauma patients, including those with bleeding, fractures, and head injuries.
  5. Patient Transport: EMT-B will provide care and stabilization within their protocols while they await intercept.
  6. Communication: EMT-B will communicate with dispatch, medical director, and other emergency responders to relay patient information and coordinate care while on site awaiting intercept.

ALS (Advanced Life Support)

An EMT-Paramedic (Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic) is knowledgeable about advanced medical procedures and techniques provide comprehensive care for patients experiencing life-threatening emergency situations. This includes interventions and procedures such as cardiac monitoring, advanced airway management (ETT intubation), the administration of medications for medical, cardiac, or traumatic events:

  1. IV and IO Access: Establishing intravenous (IV) lines or intraosseous (IO) access to deliver fluids and medications.
  2. Medication Administration: Paramedics are trained and equipped to administer a comprehensive range of medications to address various medical conditions, including cardiovascular emergencies, allergic reactions, respiratory distress, dehydration, drug overdoses, and traumatic injuries. This includes effective pain management through the use of analgesics, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and narcotics like Morphine and Fentanyl, to alleviate severe pain.
  3. Cardiac Monitoring: Paramedics are equipped with EKGs to closely monitor the patient’s heart rhythm and evaluate and identify conditions such as arrhythmias or acute myocardial infarctions (AMI). EKGs also allow the Paramedic to provide the patient with Defibrillation/Cardioversion to restore normal heart rhythm in cases of cardiac arrest or certain arrhythmias.
